How do macaques live?

  • ๐Ÿ‘๏ธ 5

Macaques are medium-sized monkeys found in a wide range of habitats across Asia and North Africa, including forests, grasslands, and urban areas. They are omnivorous and have a varied diet that includes fruits, seeds, insects, and small vertebrates. Macaques are highly social animals, living in large troops that can consist of up to 100 individuals. These troops are organized with a dominant male and a hierarchy of subordinate males and females. Macaques are opportunistic feeders, using their intelligence to forage for food and even steal from humans in urban areas. Mating occurs year-round, and after a gestation period of about 5-6 months, the female gives birth to a single infant, which is cared for by the mother and other members of the troop.
