How do sea cucumbers defend themselves from predators?
- ๐๏ธ 7
Sea cucumbers defend themselves by ejecting sticky, toxic threads called Cuvierian tubules from their bodies to entangle or deter predators. Some species can also expel their internal organs, a process known as evisceration, to distract predators while they escape. These organs regenerate over time. Additionally, their leathery skin provides protection, and some can change shape or burrow into sand for camouflage. These strategies make sea cucumbers surprisingly adept at survival.
